Three provinces nominated candidates in this week’s PNP results

Ontario, British Columbia and Manitoba invited candidates to file for provincial nominations this week.

Each Canadian province and territory (except Quebec and Nunavut) has a Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) through which they can nominate economic immigration candidates who are likely to successfully integrate into the provincial workforce and economy.

Provinces often hold draws that target candidates with specific sought-after human capital qualities. For example, some PNP draws invite candidates to apply for nomination based on their occupation, or if they are international students graduating within the province.

To receive a nomination, candidates must first be issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) by the provincial government they applied for (or the one they were sometimes selected for for Express Entry candidates). Candidates must then apply for a nomination from the province. Those who are successfully nominated will have a much stronger application when applying to Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent resident status.

Most provinces consider a candidate’s minimum “score” when issuing an EOI. This means that, like Express Entry, they are given scores based on human capital factors, but the scores are calculated using a provincial scoring system rather than the federal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Provincial Immigration Results March 9-15

Ontario

Ontario this week issued EOIs to candidates in three separate draws under the Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nomination Program (OINP).

All draws were held on March 12. In a general draw, 1,306 candidates with a minimum score of 72 points were invited.

The second invited 649 candidates in a targeted draw for skilled trade occupations. Candidates needed a minimum of 66 points to be considered.

The remaining draw invited 684 candidates in targeted healthcare and technical occupations. These candidates required a minimum score of 72.

The province also invited 11 candidates through the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker stream. This draw attracts candidates targeted in the Economic Mobility Pathways project.

British Columbia

On March 12 alone, British Columbia invited over 187 skilled worker and international graduate candidates in five targeted draws.

The draw held for technical occupations required a minimum of 113 marks for 65 candidates. This was the biggest draw and had the highest minimum marks requirement.

The province also invited 30 candidates with a minimum of 80 points in the construction trades.

Candidates were required to score a minimum of 75 points to be considered for the remaining three draws.

  • Health Services: 38 candidates invited
  • Childcare: 54 candidates invited
  • Veterinary care: Less than five candidates invited

Manitoba

The Manitoba Provincial Nomination Program invited 104 candidates in its recent expression-of-interest draw on March 8.

Candidates were selected from the skilled worker class in Manitoba and a minimum of 614 points was required.

The province says 20 EOIs were awarded to candidates who already had a valid Express Entry profile.
