British Columbia and Manitoba invite PNP candidates in latest draw

British Columbia and Manitoba have invited candidates in Canada’s latest Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) draws.

Provincial Nominee Programs are immigration programs run by each of Canada’s provinces and territories (except Quebec and Nunavut). They exist because immigration is a shared responsibility between the federal government and the provincial governments.

Each year, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) creates an Immigration Levels Plan that determines the number of permanent residents that will be admitted to Canada in the coming year and sets nominal targets for the next two years. Through the plan, IRCC also decides how many permanent residents will be admitted to Canada through a given program. For example, in 2024, IRCC will welcome 110,000 new permanent residents through the PNP.

To help accomplish this goal, IRCC gives each participating province an allocation of nominations. Provincial governments then select economic immigrant candidates who are believed to have a positive impact on the local economy and fill immediate gaps in the provincial labour force.

Provincial Immigration Results June 29-July 5

British Columbia

British Columbia (BC) has invited candidates to apply for provincial nominations this week on July 3.

The province invited over 72 candidates in the Skilled Worker and International Graduate streams of the BCPNP and also included those eligible for the Express Entry BC option.

These invitations were issued to candidates in five specific occupational categories. The most invitations, 36, went to people working in technical occupations, who had a minimum Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) score of 122. SIRS works in the same way as the federal comprehensive ranking system, but only applies to BC PNP candidates.

In the other draws, 14 invitations went to people working in child care occupations with a minimum score of 95, 13 invitations went to people working in construction with a score of 98, 9 invitations went to people working in health care occupations with a score of 106, and finally, less than five invitations went to people working in veterinary care occupations with a minimum score of 80.

Manitoba

Manitoba also held a PNP draw this week on July 4th.

The province issued 126 consultation letters for candidates to apply in two sections of the Manitoba Provincial Nomination Program (MPNP).

Letters were sent to 85 international education stream candidates and 41 overseas skilled candidates. The overseas skilled candidates needed a minimum of 709 points to be considered. They were part of one of the province’s strategic recruitment initiatives.
