IRCC invites 6,300 Canadian Experience Class candidates in latest Express Entry draw

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the latest Express Entry draw

The department issued 6,300 ITAs in a draw for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates.

Candidates were required to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 515 to be accepted for consideration.

Today’s lowest CRS score represents the lowest of the year in a non-category based selection draw and is also lower than the last CEC-only draw (522) held on May 31.

So far this month, IRCC has issued 17,361 ITAs in six separate draws.

Yesterday, IRCC invited 1,391 candidates in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-only draw with a minimum CRS of 670. Prior to that, IRCC invited 3,200 candidates in a recent category-based selected draw for French proficiency on July 8.

CRS scores for PNP-only Express Entry draws are higher than average because Express Entry candidates who have successfully enrolled for the PNP automatically receive an additional 600 CRS points on top of their existing score. For example, an Express Entry candidate with a score of 300 who has successfully enrolled will have a total CRS of 900.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is an application management system for three economic immigration programs in Canada: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Each program is a pathway to permanent residence in Canada.

These programs use the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to evaluate immigrant candidates based on human capital factors such as occupation, age, education, language skills, and work experience. Each factor gets a score, and the total sum makes up the candidate’s CRS score.

This system was introduced by IRCC in 2015 as a means of expediting processing times for successful applicants. The department has published a six-month service standard for these applications.

What is range-based selection?

The category-based selection was introduced by IRCC in 2023 to target Express Entry candidates who are most likely to help Canada fill immediate gaps in its workforce, or strengthen demographics.

To this end, the department introduced six potential categories in 2023 and announced earlier this year that they would be in place until 2025. They are:

  • Healthcare Business
  • Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) professions
  • Trade occupations, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
  • Transportation Business
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food Business
  • Proficiency in French Language

Draws for this category are not program-specific and permanent resident applicants must be in the Express Entry application pool to be eligible.
