Canada Increases Select Immigration Fees Effective December 1, 2025

Canada Immigration fees from India

Canada has implemented a new set of immigration fee increases effective December 1, 2025, impacting applicants in several inadmissibility-related categories as well as those applying for the International Experience Canada (IEC) work permit. These changes are part of Canada’s ongoing review of immigration processing costs and are relevant for individuals planning to enter, work, or restore their status in Canada.

If you are planning to apply for a Canadian visa or work permit, or require professional assistance, World Overseas Services provides complete visa guidance, including Canada PR, work permits, temporary visas, and Canada immigration documentation support.

What Has Changed?

The new fees apply to two primary areas:

  1. Inadmissibility-related applications
  2. IEC work permit processing fee

Individuals who submitted an online application and paid the old fee before midnight on December 1 will not be affected. However, applicants who sent paper applications before the deadline may need to pay the fee difference due to processing time gaps.

Inadmissibility-Related Fee Increases

Canada has revised fees for several categories where applicants need special authorization or restoration of status. These include:

Authorization to Return to Canada (ARC)

Applicants who were previously required to leave Canada must obtain an Authorization to Return to Canada before legally re-entering. This fee has been increased, impacting those who apply alongside other applications like Canadian work permits or study permits.

Temporary Resident Permit

A Temporary Resident Permit allows individuals who are otherwise inadmissible to enter Canada temporarily for compelling reasons. The updated fee reflects the administrative costs associated with risk assessment and entry review.

Criminal Rehabilitation

Applicants who have completed their sentence at least five years ago may be eligible to remove criminal inadmissibility permanently through the Criminal Rehabilitation process. Fees differ depending on whether the offence falls under standard criminality or serious criminality, and both categories have been revised.

Restoration of Status

Foreign nationals whose visitor, worker, or student status has expired and who did not apply for an extension on time must apply for a restoration of status within 90 days. Fees for restoration, with or without a new permit (study or work), have also increased.

If you require assistance in understanding your eligibility or applying for a Restoration of Status, World Overseas Immigration offers full documentation and case filing support.

IEC Work Permit Fee Increase

The International Experience Canada (IEC) program allows young foreign nationals from partner countries to work in Canada under three categories:

  • Working Holiday
  • Young Professionals
  • International Co-op (Internship)

The work permit processing fee under IEC has increased as of December 1, 2025.

To obtain an IEC work permit, candidates must:

  1. Create an IEC candidate profile.
  2. Enter one or more IEC pools.
  3. Wait for an official Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Applicants cannot apply for an IEC work permit without receiving an ITA. The IEC pools for the 2025 season are already closed, and candidates who wish to apply must wait until the 2026 IEC season opens.

For updates on the IEC program and documentation help, you can consult World Overseas Services, which provides step-by-step guidance for Canadian work permits.

What If You Already Paid the Old Fee?

If you mailed a complete application before December 1 and paid the previous fee, IRCC will send you a request to pay the difference and instructions for submitting proof of payment.

Steps to pay the difference:

  1. Calculate the difference between the old and the new fee.
  2. Use the IRCC online payment portal under the “Make an additional payment or pay other fees” section.
  3. Enter the fee difference under “Quantity.”
  4. Save the payment receipt.
  5. Submit the receipt as per IRCC’s instructions.

If you need help calculating your payment or submitting updated documents, World Overseas Services can assist you with application updates, IRCC communication, and compliance.
