IRCC stock has declined for the first time since July 2021.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is reporting a shortfall in its August 31 list.
An IRCC spokesperson sent inventory data to CIC News suggesting that the backlog has been reduced by 95,204 persons in a matter of six weeks.
Inventory across all segments of the business has progressed since last July as follows:
- August 31, 2022: 2,583,827 persons
- July 15-17, 2022: 2,679,031 persons
- June 1-6, 2022: 2,387,884 individuals
- April 30-May 2, 2022: 2,130,385 individuals
- April 11-12, 2022: 2,031,589 persons
- March 15 and 17, 2022: 1,844,424 individuals
- February 1, 2022: 1,815,628 individuals
- December 15, 2021: 1,813,144 individuals
- October 27, 2021: 1,792,404 individuals
- July 6, 2021: 1,447,474 individuals
IRCC has recently come up with a new webpage which keeps track of inventory. According to that webpage IRCC had 2.4 million in inventory as on 31st July. Of these, 1.1 million were within service standards and 1.3 million were in the backlog.
CIC News has approached IRCC to inquire about the apparent discrepancy in the data of the media department as compared to the data reported on the government website. This article will be updated when clarification is received.

The citizenship list as of September 1 has 371,620 applicants, compared to 444,792 on July 15.
The permanent residency list stands at 513,923 people as of August 31, while it was 514,116 on July 17.
Also as on 31 August, the temporary residence list stood at 1,698,284 people, while as on 17 July there were 1,720,123 persons.
Therefore, cuts have been made in all three major groups.
Express Entry and PNP Inventory
A total of 40,180 express entry applicants are waiting in the queue, which is a decrease compared to last month when there were 51,616 persons in the list.
IRCC continues the round of invites for Express Entry candidates from all the programmes. Between September 21, 2021 and July 6, 2022, the IRCC invited only Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for immigration. Under the PNP, some programs (Advanced PNP) are managed by the Express Entry system, while others (Aadhaar PNP) are managed by the provinces’ own systems.
Express Entry-managed PNPs have seen a reduction in inventory, but base PNPs have increased from 35,599 in July to 41,832 in August.
Family category list continues upwards
The list of all family-class immigration programs is 125,746 as of July, when it was 118,251.
The Wives and Partners program has the second largest list of all immigration programs at 61,073. Privately Sponsored Refugees have the largest inventory of 68,123 individuals.
In the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), 53,029 people are waiting to be decided, up from 47,025 in July.
IRCC efforts to reduce backlog
On 29 August, Fraser highlighted how Canada is addressing the backlog by hiring 1,250 new employees by the end of the fall, modernizing IRCC operations, introducing application status trackers and publishing monthly data on the IRCC website. and working to reform the immigration system.
