The bilingual city of Monsoon, New Brunswick is hosting a job fair for immigrants on January 24 in hopes of connecting international talent with local employers.
“Last year alone we filled 117 posts and we are looking to increase this coming year,
Reddy-Kalala estimates that the job fair has 500–1000 open positions, and the number of employers seeking international talent is in potential.
While most people in attendance are already in Canada on work, for example, Reddy-Kalala expects that about five percent will come from abroad seeking job opportunities.
“We recognize that people are looking for jobs and we have them.
It is an affordable housing market, as well as our quality of life, is excellent.
Look at people coming from Toronto who want a better quality of life.”
In 2018, New Brunswick\’s largest city welcomed 1,444 immigrants and non-permanent residents and by 2024 they hope to increase it to 3,500.
Given that Moncton is an officially bilingual city, many employers will be looking for candidates who speak both English and French. There will also be many opportunities for English job seekers, and some that will demand French speakers.
