IRCC confirms IT glitch affecting Express Entry candidates

in an email CIC UpdatesAn Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) spokesperson has confirmed that there have been IT issues with the Express Entry system following the implementation of the National Occupation Classification (NOC) 2021. This includes Express Entry candidates who are in Provincial Nominated Programs (PNP).

While IRCC says the department is closely examining these issues and working to resolve them, no timeline has been given for such resolutions, nor has the department confirmed what the issues are.

IRCC says that they will update the candidates as more information becomes available.

It is unknown whether these IT issues were related to the missed Express Entry draw last week on 7 December.

CIC Updates WebMD has contacted IRCC to know what the system error might mean for the candidates going forward and when the Express Entry draw is expected to resume.

The IRCC ministerial directive states that draws will take place “approximately every two weeks”., However, to date they have been Regularly on Wednesdays, there is no law that states how frequently will drawur or what day, This is entirely at the discretion of IRCC.

NOC 2021

On November 16, 2022, IRCC officially changed from NOC 2016 to NOC 2021.

Under NOC 2016, Express Entry candidates are required to have work experience classified under NOC skill type 0, A or B. Change in NOC 2021 of IRCC has shifted to Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) system.

The purpose of this change was to update the old NOC system with a new NOC and Training, Education, Experience and Responsibility (TEER) system that would assist Canada with the following four objectives: gain a better understanding of the Canadian labor market; improving its business forecast; Better analyze national labor supply and demand and provide Canadians and foreign nationals alike with more targeted and specialized job training/skills development.

Candidates who already have their profile submitted in IRCC Express Entry pool were invited to switch their NOC to new NOC 2021 freely. Such update should be done for each post (job) included in the IRCC profile. Failure to do so will disqualify the candidates from receiving Invitation to Apply (ITA).
